Web Developement
Creation and ideation of new websites, updates to existing dot-coms, portfolio creation and other offerings based on your unique needs.
After working several years as an engineer, founder and lead developer Jessica Tatham, recognized a pattern: most of her colleagues were male. And most of the talented women she knew didn't have a seat at the leadership table. Their powerful, thoughtful and ingenious ideas weren’t taken seriously—even though they were juggling it all to, well, have it all.
After digging into the data, Jess realized the numbers spoke for themselves:
10 percent of web developers are female.
5 percent of the world's top executives are women.
17 percent of entrepreneurs are female.
She wanted to change these stats, so she quit her job. And while traveling the world for a year, meeting inspiring women in every corner of the globe—from Prague and Kyoto to Chiang Mai and Lima—she founded DevelopHer Design.
Today, her full-service web development company aims to give female entrepreneurs the insight they need to incite growth in their companies. After all, we know you have a lot to do, so when it comes to your website, we take care of it for you.
Somethings we do great—others, not so much:
Web Development 100%
Content Strategy 95%
Social Media & SEO 90%
Washing Dishes 20%
Some entrepreneurs are killer ideators.
Others are master organizers.
Some have a way with words—while others prefer numbers.
But if web development isn’t your forte? It can be intimidating to even imagine how impressive your website can be. We work tirelessly to make the process of creating a beautiful, engaging and effective website easy, so you can spend more time doing whatever it is you do best.
Creation and ideation of new websites, updates to existing dot-coms, portfolio creation and other offerings based on your unique needs.
More than ever, understanding how to maximize your online presence is essential to business growth. We develop strategies to help you get on Google's and Facebook's good graces.
Your website is more than a homepage—it is a brand for you and your company. A personalized HTML email signature carries that branding over to the everyday correspondence between you and your clients.
Originally from Seattle, by way of South Africa, I'm an experienced developer and software engineer. Before founding DevelopHer Designs, I worked for medium-sized startups, primarily focusing on frontend applications. After realizing a void in web development catered to female entrepreneurs, I decided to pave the way for aspiring, talented and passionate women to bring their businesses online. Since then, I’ve been lucky to work with fashion designers, publicists, animal conservationists, journalists, bakers—and the list goes on. I feel like one of the lucky ones who is continuously inspired by her clients, the work they create and the ceilings they shatter.
As a lifelong traveler, I develop from wherever wanderlust takes me, meaning each day has a bit of work and play. When I’m off the clock, I enjoy starting my days with strong coffee, exploring cities and mountains alike, brushing up my culinary skills, taking hot yoga classes, one-upping my family with travel photos, making friends with every animal I meet and volunteering for causes close to my heart. As a vegetarian and a big fan of elephants, I have a special interest and dedication to animal conservation, and hope to one day help eliminate the barriers keeping non-profits from sourcing funds and resources online.

Jessica Tatham worked in the male-dominated tech industry for several years before taking a leap of faith to start her own full-service web development company. In addition to the desire to be her own boss, set her own hours and work from wherever she wanted, she also identified a hole within the market she knew she could fulfill. Though she was lucky to work with motivating and supportive male mentors, she was one of the few females at her company. This fact alone was enough to inspire her to create a platform for female executives and entrepreneurs to tell their story digitally. “I became really frustrated by the lack of women in the industry but mostly by the intimidation factor around technology in general. I knew there was a need out there for a business that took care of both these problems,” she shared.
This is the one app that not only helps me pay my bills, but boosts my confidence in myself and my business, every time I use it.” — Jess Tatham, founder of DevelopHer Designs.
Not sure about web design, or don’t know where to get started? Hiring an agency or even a solo person is an investment in your long-term career. And hey, some designers even cater to specific groups, like DevelopHER Designs, a full-service web company that specializes in female entrepreneurs and executives.
For many professionals, coworking spaces are a double-edged sword of productivity: Seeing folks diligently cram away next to you is motivating, but when they pull off the headphones to bounce an idea off of you, it can mess up your rhythm. While founder of a full-service web development company for female entrepreneurs Jessica Tatham sometimes feeds off the presence of company, other times, spending time alone is what helps her power through her to-do list. As she’s traveled the past 11 months, she’s figured out how to schedule blocks for solo strategy.
As the growing digital nomad community is proving, the definition of work is fluid. Getting a long-term trip approved might just take a bit of convincing. “Remote work is on the rise—and by explaining how you can be productive anywhere, not just in your cubicle, you might be able to make the shift,” explains Jess Tatham, digital nomad and location-independent web developer. If your manager declines your request, there are plenty of companies who operate with fully remote workers. Or, if you’re ready for the freelance route, take a line out of Tatham’s resumé and branch out on your own.
I had the pleasure of being connected to our Woman of the Week: Jess through one of the Suitcase Six ladies who met this entrepreneur through her Remote Year adventure. Of course, I was eager to interview Jess and thrilled that she agreed. She’s recently started her own business that allows her to work remotely, living the dream of many of us as she explores the globe in between attending work for her clients! I know you’ll be inspired by Jess’s travel tales, her business savvy experience, and her advice for those of us who want to join her in wandering while we work.
When I rebranded my personal website, I worked with a trusted web developer and friend who catered to female entrepreneurs and executives. Once the finished product was live and thriving, I couldn’t wait to share her info far-and-wide, since the experience was so seamless, easy and inspiring. While sure I could recommend both her ability to code and her cooking skills, experts agree keeping it buttoned-up, yet personal, makes for a higher possibility your recommendation will be taken seriously.
More than any physical or material gift, one of the most substantial holiday presents anyone can give a photographer is an update or upgrade to their digital presence and online portfolio. By seeking out companies like DevelopHer Designs, you’d be gifting a world class personalized service.
As location-independent software developer and founder of DevelopHER Designs Jessica Tatham explains, portable hotspots can be used throughout the world, but the level of connectivity differs greatly depending on your GPS location.
Jessica really listened to what I needed and wanted. She brought with her deep expertise, creativity, and the willingness to try new things. She remained ever professional and quick to respond to any concern I might have. I would highly recommend working with Jessica.Emilia Mello Film Producer
My site, especially the fantastic coverage I'd received, was a mish mash mess before Jess came through with an amazing re-design. I am so comfortable now with the site overall and happily flaunt it with confidence. Susan Gold Entrepreneur
As someone who is easily intimidated by anything-and-everything pertaining to web development, working with Jessica was a like a sigh of relief. She took my ideas and easily brought them to life, taking my once dull portfolio site and turning it into an impressive body of work that I love sharing far and wide. I totally recommend her creativity, hard work and positive attitude to any fellow badass female who wants to *finally* get their website finished! I couldn’t have done it without Jess!Lindsay Tigar Travel & Lifestyle Journalist
My blog was in dire need of a redo but I kept putting it off until I found Jessica. With her, the process of making a more modern site was seamless.
